The atmosphere changed when Boniface entered the game.
Leverkusen supporters showed their appreciation for the striker, with his name being heard around the stadium.
The reception underlined the connection Boniface has built with the club’s supporters since arriving in Germany.
Boniface Returns After Loan Spell
Boniface spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Werder Bremen before returning to Leverkusen this summer. Bayer’s official team information confirms his return to the squad for the 2026/27 preseason.
His return gives new head coach Carles Martínez another attacking option as he prepares his squad for the new campaign.
Boniface had already made an impact during preseason, scoring twice in Leverkusen’s 7–0 victory over Sportfreunde Baumberg in July.
Leverkusen Complete Comeback Against Sevilla
Leverkusen fell behind against Sevilla after Miguel Sierra opened the scoring in the first half.
However, Patrik Schick changed the game after coming off the bench.
The Czech striker scored twice to complete Leverkusen’s comeback and secure a 2–1 victory in front of more than 25,000 supporters at the BayArena.
Boniface also entered the game during the second half, adding another attacking option for the home side.
What Boniface’s Return Means
Boniface will now be hoping to establish himself under Martínez.
The Nigerian forward has already shown that he can be a dangerous attacking player when fully fit. His physical strength, movement and ability to hold up the ball can give Leverkusen another dimension in attack.
With the new season approaching, competition for attacking positions will be intense.
Boniface will therefore need to make the most of his opportunities during preseason.

Boniface’s return to regular football will also interest Nigerian supporters.
The striker remains an important option for the Super Eagles, and consistent club football could help him maintain his sharpness.
For now, however, his immediate focus will be on winning his place in the new Leverkusen setup.
